"falling for FALL..."

Oh my word... getting up to the chill of Fall air does my heart good!  I am LOVING my new Charleston storm door... LOVING I say.  So much so that I made her a little fall necklace :)

*****

Much better!  I didn't think I could love my burlap any more...
 Then I went and changed out her bow....

*****

Then I went and added some GOLD pumpkins to the mantle and birds.. and peacock feathers... and whatever else I could find.

*****

I'm trying to go less Halloween and more Fall...
 purely for the fact that Fall can be used longer
 and I'm lazy like that!

*****

So.. I instead of adding spiders...
 I added feathers.

*****

Instead of writing a chalkboard spooky message... I drew some antlers???  I know I hate myself for saying this but...  And I will NEVER live this down from my hunter-loving brother {whom I have fought about the insanity of mounting Bambi on the wall my entire life}.  But I want some antlers please dear brother... May I have some please please please???

*****

And I wanted a velvet fancy pumpkin too... but sadly they are $27 and I'm not buying any decorations for Fall... So I made one {kinda pitiful but free}.  She is about to get a sister sometime tomorrow... I'm hoping she's a bit more festive but we shall see??

*****

A-man isn't into the whole "Fall" thing ...
 He wants more webs and spiders and the like...

*****

Prissy can be bribed with fake nails
and hasn't mentioned a thing :)

*****

We did however put up our traditional ghosts
 around the tree in the front.
 It just wouldn't be the same without them...

*****

And this is reality-
 for those of you that might think my house is always picked up...

*****

And because I am contemplating a second reupholstering job in 1 week???  I must show you her again...  Isn't she lovey?  YES she is.  Joey even thinks "she's one of my bests!"

thrift store re-purposing....

I have a heart for junk!  I do.  I make no excuses.  When I see a shoe along side of the road with no match... I'm sad.  Are you??  So when I saw this for $1.00 because he had been in a fire {cue the "ain't no body got time for this"} I couldn't pass it up.

*****

I stopped off at the dollar tree for a piece of foam board. And quickly cut it to fit.  {I had to tape it up the middle but work with me people- we are trying to do things on the cheap around here}.  Sure I could have gone to Michaels and gotten a piece perfectly cut to fit the mammoth frame.. but that would have been $$$$$.  And that would have been too easy {wink wink }.

*****

Next I glued some burlap to the foam board- easy as pie.

*****

Also- I gave the frame a couple of coats of leftover front door paint {Ben Moore- rock bottom}
Then I added the burlap mat to the frame with hot glue.

*****

Lastly I wanted to finish him up with some snazzy hardware... so I used some brassy tacks.  These give it a more polished look & help hold the mat in place.

*****

I hung him in the hallway- it's our "wall of fame".
 The kiddos get to display their art & school work.

*****

so total cost for the project:
frame = $1.00
paint = free {leftover}
foam board = $1.00
burlap = free {on hand}
brass tacks = {98 cents at Wally}

$3.00- whoot whoot!!

gold..... the new black

So... recently {and by that I mean this week} I am swooning over GOLD.  I want some in every room....  It's a sickness!  I went through 2 cans of metallic GOLD spray paint in 1 DAY!

*****

I started small... birds and tins and tea towels.

*****

Then I got a teeny bit bolder with mirrors and picture frames...

*****

Then I remembered the great corner chair in my closet.  Remember the one that Cooner picked up for me last year??  She came home with me brown, then I painted her white and distressed her...  Finally.... I taped her off and she got a dusting of gold.

*****

Then I found a great vintage {sorta old lady print} that I of course LOVED!  It fell right into my current favorite color palate of GOLD, peachy/pink, and mint green {gasp}.  I know....  I have been running from these 3 since Cooner showed me her wedding photos and these 3 amigos were her wedding colors- YIKES! {and yes that's a box fan in the background- it's stifling down here in the south right now!}

*****

But.. in the end.  I ADORE my chair and her corner style even more.  Although I must say re-upholstering is not my favorite thing.  And I do NOT have another chair re-do in my immediate future...  But.... it was SO worth the blood, sweat, and tears!!  And I shopped my attic and found this little side table {Prissy bought it for me 2 year ago out treasure hunting with Cooner}.  It's the perfect compliment just like her!!

*****

Moral to the story-
  #1 it's cheaper to diy but it could kill you
#2 gold is the new black- every room need a touch of it!
